Leila came to the United States with little more than hope, determination, and a dream of building a better life. As an immigrant, she worked four jobs at one time, without health insurance, while learning English at night and put herself through college - ultimately earning a master’s degree in public administration.
She knows what it feels like to stand at the gas pump, doing the math to figure out whether there is enough money for both gas and rent. Through hard work, perseverance, and education, Leila built the American Dream she came here seeking. She went on to serve as President of her Union and took on special interests to secure better wages, treatment, and healthcare for workers. That's why she is proud to be endorsed by teachers, nurses, and construction workers.
For more than 20 years, Leila has served the people of Indio, helping transform the City into one of the fastest-growing communities in Riverside County. As a Senior Planner, she managed the City’s General Plan Update and helped implement a long-term vision that attracted millions of dollars in investment for housing, infrastructure, economic development, and local job creation. Throughout her career, Leila has worked to remove unnecessary barriers that slow housing construction and drive-up costs.
Leila has a proven record of bringing people together, solving problems, and delivering results that improve the quality of life for local families.
Now, she is running for State Assembly to make life more affordable for working families. She will fight to lower costs, hold corporations accountable for price gouging, make homeownership and renting more attainable for working families, expand access to affordable healthcare, and create good-paying jobs in our communities.
