When she finally arrived in 2002, she didn’t have money or connections — just determination and the dream of a fair shot. There were times she worked three jobs just to get by, while attending college at night to learn English. Despite these challenges, Leila was able to turn her hardship into strength — and has spent her career breaking down barriers for others through a life of public service.Since 2005, she has worked with the City of Indio, starting as a Planning Technician and rising to become a Public Arts Program Analyst. She has helped shape strategic plans, manage city budgets, and bring more voices into the civic process. Her focus has always been on building trust, creating space for community input, and making government more transparent and responsive.Leila is running for State Assembly because she knows what it feels like to struggle. She’s lived the reality that so many families across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are facing today: rising costs, housing insecurity, limited access to healthcare and education, and the growing gap between the rich and everyone else.In the State Assembly, Leila will fight for working families like hers by taking on corporate greed, advocating for affordable housing, pushing for good-paying jobs, and working to expand access to education and quality healthcare.
